Our Manufacturing Process: From Husk to Harvest
At Vocconaturals, quality isn’t just a final check—it’s embedded in every step of our journey. We transform raw coconut husks into premium, export-grade cocopeat through a rigorous 8-step process designed to ensure low salinity, high expansion, and consistency.
Raw Material Sourcing
The quality of cocopeat begins with the coconut itself.
Extraction
Large beaters separate the long coir fibers from the spongy pith (cocopeat).
Washing & Buffering
This is where we define the chemical quality of the product (Low EC vs. High EC).
Drying
We utilize extensive concrete drying yards to ensure purity.
Sieving & Grading
Uniformity is key for commercial growers. The dried peat is passed through rotary sieves to remove impurities.
Quality Control (QC)
Before packing, every batch undergoes strict laboratory testing.
Compression & Packing
Once approved by QC, the loose peat moves to hydraulic presses.
Palletizing & Shipping
Blocks are stacked on treated wooden pallets and wrapped tightly with stretch film to ensure stability.
Raw Material Sourcing
The quality of cocopeat begins with the coconut itself. We exclusively source husks from fresh, freshwater-grown coconuts.
- Selection: We avoid husks from saline/coastal areas to ensure naturally lower salt content.
- Aging: The raw husks are aged (cured) for 4–6 weeks. This natural decomposition process softens the fibers, making separation easier and improving the stability of the final peat.
Washing & Buffering (The Critical Step)
This is where we define the chemical quality of the product (Low EC vs. High EC).
- EC Reduction: For our "Low EC" (Washed) products, the raw peat is washed with fresh, clean water. This process leaches out excessive salts like Sodium and Chloride, bringing the Electrical Conductivity (EC) down to root-safe levels
- Buffering (Optional): For premium grades, we treat the peat with Calcium Nitrate.
Drying
We utilize extensive concrete drying yards to ensure purity.
- Sun Drying: The washed peat is spread thinly on cement floors—never on bare soil—to prevent pathogen and weed seed contamination.
- Moisture Control: We dry the material until it reaches the ideal moisture content (typically between 12% to 15%). This prevents fungal growth during transit while ensuring the blocks expand easily upon rehydration.
Quality Control (QC)
Before packing, every batch undergoes strict laboratory testing. We check:
- EC & pH: Ensuring EC is <0.5 mS/cm (for Low EC) and pH is neutral
- Impurities: Testing for sand content and weed seeds.
- Expansion Volume: We test samples to ensure a 5kg block yields the promised volume
Compression & Packing
Once approved by QC, the loose peat moves to hydraulic presses.
- Compression: The material is compressed at a 5:1 ratio into standard formats: 5kg Blocks, 650g Briquettes, or Grow Bags.
- Packaging: Blocks are individually shrink-wrapped (optional) or palletized directly.
- We ensure high-quality, UV-treated packaging materials are used to withstand long shipping durations.
Palletizing & Shipping
The final stage is logistics.
- Palletizing: Blocks are stacked on treated wooden pallets and wrapped tightly with stretch film to ensure stability.
- Container Loading: We maximize loadability (typically 22–24 tons per 40HC container) while ensuring moisture barriers are in place to keep the product dry during its ocean voyage.
